This fall, BOMA International will release the latest version of its Office Standard. The updates will impact the way that building measurements are calculated. With a representative co-chairing the revision task force, Gensler is well-versed in the coming changes, and we want you to be prepared. Here are some of the proposed updates:
- Inclusion of features such as balconies and rooftop terraces in Rentable Area
- Inclusion of major vertical penetrations including stair wells and elevator shafts “at their lowest level” in Rentable Area
- Alignment with the International Property Measurement Standards (IPMS), providing a better opportunity to compare buildings globally
The BOMA International Floor Measurement Standards Committee is made up of property owners and measurement practitioners. As the only design firm represented, Gensler is focused on leveraging BOMA to inform building performance throughout the design process. As representatives for both building owners and occupiers, Gensler remains third party to transactions and stays focused on measurement accuracy and adherence to the BOMA standard.
As updates to the standard are finalized, Gensler will be releasing more information to illustrate the impact that the changes have on building measurements.
